Tofu: Almost Like Meat

Meat Substitute

Tofu or bean curd is a food of chinese origin made by coagulating soy milk and then pressing the resulting curds into soft white blocks.

It's what cheese is to milk. Tofu is often seen as meat substitute.

Soft, or silken, tofu can be used to make salad dressing, dips and pâtés, pie fillings, smoothies, and more. Crumbled and fried with herbs and vegetables, soft tofu makes a good vegetarian stand-in for scrambled eggs. Firm cubes of tofu, sautéed, can be a great addition to a stir-fry.

Here's plenty of Tofu recipes.

The market for Tofu products is booming.

In Germany, tofu is selling very well and the niche are dominated by small businesses like Taifun ( aus Freiburg ) or TofuTown. Key people to watch are: Bernd Drosihn and Wolfgang Rainer Heck.

It's about time. Few dispatches from the planet Earth.

Sitting in my situation room, with glasses on, listening Lejla song, eating Milka sponge cakes with orange jelly, drinking refreshing Cedevita and thinking about new text editor. Some 100 meters away, there's a football game of our local club, should be friendly match before the start of season.

I dislike using Word for writing articles. I am in a search for new text editor. It would be online one.
Used to write with Writer by BigHugeLabs. It's good and simple. GDocs text editor is option as well. Third solution ?

I hope I'll find one this afternoon. Tommorow I'll start my vacations 2011.

360: TeliportMe Brings Its Killer Panorama App To Android (Oh, And It Works On Over 200 Phones)

Last November, TechCrunch’s own Sarah Lacy sat down with Vineet Devaiah from “social streetview” startup, Phototour.in, which, at the time, had just received term sheets from a number of high-profile U.S. investors and had recently been awarded the “Top Emerging Technology Company of 2010″ by Nvidia. The startup was the first international, non-funded, under-20-member company to win the award, according to Devaiah.
Since then, Phototour added Academy Award certificate-winner and entrepreneur Bala S. Manian as an advisor (who was honored for “technical achievement” for his contributions to optical technologies used in films, including Star Wars) and has gained more than 47,000 users for the alpha version of its image and panorama crowdsourcing app, “360″, on Android. Users have logged more than 75,000 panoramas in a relatively short period of time,
so, considering the rumors that the iPhone 5 will have a native panorama app, sources tell us that 360 might be a candidate for a potential partnership with Android, so that it can remain neck-in-neck with Apple.
What’s more, Today the startup is officially announcing that it is rebranding as TeliportMe and is bringing 360 out of alpha and into the public sphere in ready-to-wear form. For free. Granted, 360-degree panorama apps for smartphones are nothing new. There are quite a few cool apps and gadgets that have these capabilities on the market, like Occipital’s 360 Panorama, and Microsoft’s Photosynth, to name a few.

In light of this competition, TeliportMe wants to distinguish itself from the field by building a high quality Android app, that works across OEMs. According to Devaiah, panoramic apps tend to be very hardware centric because of their reliance on a smartphone’s camera, accelerometer, gyroscope, RAM, and so on. Because Android relies on so many different OEMs, it becomes a tricky proposition to build a good 360-degree app for Android and is the reason why most panorama apps are built on iOS (thanks to the vertical integration it has with its hardware).
Another obstacle for Android is that only about 20 percent of its smartphones have the processing capability of the iPhone, and as panoramic apps require a lot of image processing during photo stitching, many Android phones don’t have enough RAM to make this possible (at least at speed). Devaiah cited the example of a phone like the HTC wildfire, which has the processing capability lesser than that of an iPhone 2G.
This is where the technology that won the startup the “best emerging tech” award comes into play. TeliportMe brought its photo stitching technology to the Android phone, which to a large extent negates the issues caused due to multiple hardware configurations, allowing it to function smoothly over 200 models of android phones. (The startup has also built a version of its photostitching app that works on the browser, which it will be launching soon.)
So, 360 allows its users to quickly take high quality panoramas, which they can then view on the apps 3D viewer. Users can share panoramas via Facebook and Twitter, as well as view, comment, and “like” photos taken by people all over the world on 360′s public realtime feed. The app also taps into the phone’s location to allow users to discover other people using 360 in close proximity, using its “Around Me” option.
Check out 360 in the Android Marketplace here, and for the 360′s humorous take on “the Google+ guy” dissing other photo apps, check out this video. For more on 360, look out, video below:

iPhone 5 Silicone Cases Now Abundantly Available In China

The iPhone 5 silicone case which we talked about the other day will no longer be limited to blurry spy-shots as the cases are now available everywhere in China.
iPhone-521

The silicone cases that were first seen from the folks over at 9to5Mac are, according to M.I.C. Gadget, now available abundantly in China. They have the exact same design; design which suggests that the iPhone 5 will have a thinner profile, a larger, possibly edge-to-edge display and a tapered design that goes from thick to thin.
Each case costs a very reasonable 30 cents but are only available for bulk purchase meaning you will have to order at least 500 pieces.
iPhone 5 case
From M.I.C. Gadget:
Recently, we see pictures of iPhone 5 cases on the Internet. Actually, we are now seeing these iPhone 5 cases EVERYWHERE in China now.
What we are hearing now is that the Chinese case makers are distributing their iPhone 5 cases. Anyone dares to take direct order from them? Distribution price starts from 2 yuan (about $0.30), and you need to buy at least 500 of them!
Capture
Rumors regarding the release and design of the iPhone 5 are getting stronger and stronger by the day. What started as hopeful predictions from analysts is now seeing reports from reliable, anonymous sources.
iPhoneItalia cited an anonymous senior executive at Swiss wireless carrier Swisscom who claimed that the iPhone 5 would launch in the US on 5th September and, at least in Switzerland, on 5th October.
We also heard a report from BGR which claimed that AT&T is making preparations for the iPhone 5 launch. This was complemented by the news that Apple is increasing staffing for its retail Apple Stores in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The iPhone 5 will certainly come with an A5 processor along with other expected features, double the current RAM and a higher megapixel camera to bring it in line with the current crop of smartphones.
There are also rumors of the next iPhone coming with a larger edge-to-edge Retina Display and a 64GB model.
All in all, the next smartphone from Apple will be powerful enough to take on the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Sensation and the Motorola Atrix; all of which come with dual-core processors, more RAM and a higher megapixel (though not necessarily better) camera.

FBapp For iPhone & Status Via For Android Lets You Update Facebook Status From iPhone 5G, Air Force One, Hogwarts

Those via iPhone, via Blackberry status updates are starting to get boring now. While there is no escaping them since Facebook includes them along with their native apps, you can set yourself apart by customizing the via message.
We talked about how to do this from a web browser last week. If you wish to pull of the same trickery using an Android smartphone or an iPhone/iPod touch/iPad, we’ve got the solutions: Status Via for Android and FBapp for iOS device.
Status Via for Android
hi-512-4

After downloading, installing and launching the app from the link posted at the end, you must log in to Facebook. Once logged in, you can pretend to be posting the status update from any of the 50 supported devices/places included in the app.
From the app’s page on Android Market:
Status Via allows you to post status updates on Facebook under the guise of another device.
You’ve probably seen the "via Facebook for Android" and "via Facebook for iPhone" tags sitting underneath status updates. Well, you’ve probably also thought to yourself "Man, I wish I could have something a bit more… fulfilling in it’s place".
Status Via for Android lets you update your Facebook status via the following: Banana Phone, Google+, PS3, Tin Cans Connected by String, Gameboy Color, Telepathy, Air Force One, IPhone 5G, Xbox LIVE, SNES, NASA Satellite, The Future, Pokedex, Typewriter, Pip Boy. Hogwarts, BMW iDrive, IPod Nano, The Moon, Nintendo Wii, GLaDOS, K.I.T.T. (Knight Industries Two Thousand), Mind-Computer Interface among others.
ss-480-2-6
The developer promises to add pretend-places/devices to the app if you leave a nice enough review. Status Via is a free app and it supports all Android devices running versions 1.6 and up. You can download it from the link embedded at the end of the post.
FBapp for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad
Untitled
FBApp (pronounced as F-bap, supposedly) lets you pull off the same trickery from an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. Unfortunately it isn’t as simple to use as Status Via as you will have to manually enter App IDs from the post Oliver wrote. This, however, comes with the added benefit of customizability: once you set up your own app on Facebook, you simply enter its ID on FBapp and update your status from there allowing you have full control over the via <App Name> message.
Those via iPhone, via Blackberry status updates are starting to get boring now. While there is no escaping them since Facebook includes them along with their native apps, you can set yourself apart by customizing the via message.
FBApp is also free. You can download it from the link embedded at the end.
For both apps, this is the end result:
Untitled
It’s a one time thing, really. I don’t expect people to get fooled over this many times. Still, it’s a nice way to make your friends awe at how you managed to “hack” Facebook.

How To Enable HDMI Video Mirroring On iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G

While the iPad 2 comes with out-of-the-box support for video mirroring over HDMI or VGA, the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G don’t. The interesting thing is that it has been proven that video mirroring works with the latter devices; maybe not as well as the iPad 2 but the fact is, they work and Apple purposefully has left out this functionality. We’re going to get that functionality back on the iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G today; follow our guide after the break!

after the break!
Video Mirroring iPhone
We previously published a guide on how to enable mirroring on the first-generation iPad so you may follow that guide if you’ve got one.

Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T Ad, First Windows Phone Mango Commercial

The Fujitsu-Toshiba IS12T is the first smartphone running Windows Phone Mango that was launched. It is a joint effort made by Microsoft, OEM Fujitsu-Toshiba and Japanese carrier KDDI and it looks good so far.

Being the first Windows Phone to run Mango, its commercial is also the first Windows Phone Mango ad to surface on the internet. The clip itself is not made by Microsoft nor the manufacturer but belongs to the carrier KDDI. Needless to say that is shows off all the goodness Mango and Windows Phone in general brings, but it will be interesting to see how the market will react to the new player.

Facebook today is launching a "bug bounty" program, Rewards starting at $500 or more

Facebook today is launching a "bug bounty" program where it will pay researchers who find bugs and vulnerabilities in Facebook and report it to the company to be fixed. Developers who find bugs and report them to Facebook through its "Responsible Disclosure Policy" will be rewarded starting $500 or more, with no cap on how big a bounty developers can harvest.
Facebook follows in the footsteps of Google and Mozilla that also have bug bounty programs. Mozilla offers up to $3,000 for bugs found within its open-source software such as Firefox and Google offers between $500 and $1,337 (a number associated with geek lexicon " leet speak" created in the 1980s).

One of the reasons that Facebook became the dominant social network in the Web. 2.0 movement is that it has fostered a developer community that has aggressively built on top of the platform. As such, the bug bounty program is a natural extension of that community.
To qualify for the bounty, developers must adhere to the Responsible Disclosure Policy and find a bug that "could compromise the integrity or privacy of Facebook user data." That includes cross-site scripting (XSS), cross-site request forgery (CSRF/XSRF) or remote code injection or any other such known hacking methods or vulnerabilities.
Only one bounty will be awarded per specific bug, starting at $500 with the ability to increase based on the type of bug. Bugs in third-party applictions, websites, corporate infrastructure are not eligible nor are denial of service vulnerabilities or social engineering (phishing) or spam techniques. Essentially, they have to be bugs in the Facebook platform itself and not part of some type of extension, app or add-on.
Here is the Responsible Disclosure Policy from the new White Hat information page for security researchers:
"If you give us a reasonable time to respond to your report before making any information public and make a good faith effort to avoid privacy violations, destruction of data and interruption or degradation of our service during your research, we will not bring any lawsuit against you or ask law enforcement to investigate you."

Apple has more cash on hand than U.S. government

I don’t know if this is more of a statement on how ridiculously rich Apple has become, or the harsh state of the American economy, but if the math adds up, the U.S. government has an operating balance of $73.768 billion, while the maker of iPhone and various other silky-smooth gadgets has $75.876 billion in the bank according to the last quarterly results. Of course, the economies of international corporations and entire nations vary significantly, making a direct comparison a bit unfair, but it does put things into perspective. As far as worldwide market cap goes, Apple is the second-biggest company in the world, after oil behemoth Exxon Mobil.

The fact that tons of people are willing to buy iPhone products before even knowing what they are just goes to show how much of a mindshare Apple has captured (at very least in the U.S.). It’s really pretty boggling, especially if you aren’t a part of the iCult, but you can’t argue with the amount of success the company has enjoyed. I guess the next step now is for Apple to buy the entire state of California from the U.S. government and make a magical utopian society comprised of self-sufficient space donuts.
